The Return To Fitness
From sitting on the sofa for almost a year, to training for a Rugby 7’s season. Everyone would attack this with a different mindset. All my life I have been obsessed with athletic performance, so I was excited for it. Running faster for further, jumping higher and squatting heavier. There is something so rewarding about going onto the field and feeling dominant in your ability.
So it was easy. Start small (even though you want to lift at 100% effort straight away). Build up the volume over several weeks. Much better that than smash your first session and walk like you don’t have knee joints for the next week. Focus on the foundations; endurance running, injury prevention, low volume resistance training and slowly build the volume allowing for R&R (Rest & Recovery).
All the while, as the weeks go by, the training is still bringing you hype and enjoyment. Then you get to a point where you can start fine tuning your sessions as you get closer to the opening tournament.
Then the day before, your tournament gets cancelled because of bad weather. Great.
