Go To Sleep

Everyone has aspects of their life they can improve on. I’m very much a case of; “do as I say, not as I do”. I guess no one is perfect. Oh… except all those gymshark/instagram influencers - nose grows bigger. I thought I would share my view on how to rectify these aspects of life.

There are a few steps to making positive change. First is realising what that change is.

You can go your whole life not even noticing a bad habit you have that is detrimental to your health & performance. It’s important to reflect and recognise what that thing is. The next step is finding a way of changing/deleting that habit.

Most people find excuses or find “legitimate” reasons why they can’t make change. I’m sure if they REALLY tried, they could. I struggle to get enough sleep. It has a negative affect on my work, gym/rugby performance and my mood. I work early 6am shifts for the gym after working until 9pm the night before. I’ve RECOGNISED what the issue is, and now i’m finding a way of CHANGING the habit. Soon I will be paying the gym rent instead of working early mornings for them.

Yes, it’s an extra monthly expense. However, by doing this, my work performance improves. Making my social media better, making my clients experience better, making my business meetings with myself more productive, and so on. Also, improving my gym/rugby, and my general mood and wellbeing. It’s an investment to myself.

Finally, the last step is reinforcing this habit. A great book/audiobook is Atomic Habits by James Clear. One of my favourite books. If you can implement what is spoken about in this book, you will become a very impressive person. It explains how to create good habits and delete bad ones, by using several methods.

Sometimes it’s important humble yourself and reflect on your life and consider what works for you, what doesn’t, and what sacrifices you may have to make. Be critical. It’s easy to ignore things you can improve on because of your emotion.

My emotion to continue 6am shifts to not have to pay rent for short term financial gain, can stop me from making the sacrifice to make long term financial AND health gains!

The same goes for your athletic performance.

I hope all of that waffle helps.
