Im A Snake
I’ve already written about how in life (particularly Rugby) you can be brought back down to earth and humbled in a savage way. This one is more about learning you made the wrong decision in a savage way.
It happened only the other day. Rugby 7’s is known for decision making in barely half a second. Make the wrong decision and you’re punished by either conceding a try, or losing posession.
I got the ball on the wing and could either step on the outside and potentially go into touch (and lose the ball) but potentially score a try, or step inside and try and win the collision. I chose the latter to be safe and ended up on my arse with a completely split open tongue.
A video was posted on our group chat within 24 hours and I had the luxury of eating through a straw for the next 48.
I learned that I need to back my ability to go around the outside in a brutal way.
IN A SPLIT SECOND DECISION!
But I know what I need to do this weekend now. After 18 months off Rugby, I need to regain my confidence and back myself!
On the flip side, in the whole tournament; I didn’t lose possession, I scored a good try, was 100% pass success, and felt like I had plenty more in the tank in terms of fitness.
So here is your message to learn from your mistakes, and importantly not to let it consume you and see the positives from the situation, no matter how small.
Chin up!
